     The following Voter Registration & Change forms are available online to the public. But they must be filled out completely, signed and returned to the Board of Elections.

Registration Forms

NC English - Voter Registration Form & Instructions
If you are a North Carolina resident, please use this form.  Return the form to the Stanly County Board of Elections by postal mail to P. O. Box 1309, Albemarle, NC 28002.

NC Spanish - Voter Registration Form & Instructions
Spanish version of the North Carolina resident form, use the instructions above.

FPCA
Federal Post Card Application is for US Citizens covered by UOCAVA (Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act).

 National Register to Vote*
Can be used to register to vote, report a change of name, report a change of address or register with a political party. The national form also contains voter registration rules and regulations for each state and territory.

 * Please do not use the National form if you live outside the United States or its territories, and you do not have a home (legal) address in this country, or if you are in the military stationed away from home. Use the FPCA (Federal Postcard Application) available to you from military bases, American embassies, or consular offices.

You may register to vote or change your voter registration at the following locations:

  • Stanly County Board of Elections Office, 1000 N First Street, Suite 16, Albemarle 28001

  • Stanly County High Schools

  • Employment Security Commission

  • Stanly County Libraries

  • Department of Social Services

  • Military Recruitment Offices

  • Health Department (WIC office)

  • DMV when you apply for or renew your drivers license

  • Town Halls

Qualifications

  • You must be 18 years of age or be 18 by the General Election of the current year.
  • You must be a United States Citizen.
  • You must have resided in the precinct or other election district in Stanly County, North Carolina for thirty days prior to the upcoming election.
  • You must have your rights of citizenship.  If you have been convicted of a felony you have lost these rights.  You must complete your probation in order to have them restored and be eligible to register.

Required Information

The following information must be provided on your voter registration application:

  • Citizenship Verification

  • Full name

  • Physical address (where you live, ex: 123 Main Street)

  • Mailing address

  • Date of birth

  • ID number - NC Driver's License, NC State ID, or last four digits of Social Security

*See the following paragraph if you cannot provide this information.

If you are a new registrant in this county and do not have a drivers license or social security number, you must send with your application, either of the following:

  • A copy of current and valid photo ID
  • A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document showing your name and address.

*If you do not provide this information you will be required to provide it the first time you vote.

Registration Submission & Deadline
     The deadline to register to vote is 25 days before the day of the Election. Applications may be submitted by mail, facsimile transmission, transmission of a scanned document, or in person.  Applications submitted by mail must be postmarked by the deadline.  Those submitted by facsimile or scanned document must be followed up with the original, permanent copy no later than 20 days before the election.  Applicants will receive a Voter Identification Card stating your precinct and polling place assignments.
Registration Changes/Updates
     If you have changed your name or moved within the county you need to notify the Board of Elections as soon as possible.  This will help to avoid delays when you present yourself to vote.  Changes to your voter registration (name, address, and party) may be made on the same form as new registrations.  The same submission guidelines and deadlines apply to these changes.

Party Affiliation
North Carolina is a closed primary state.  When you register, you will be asked to declare your party affiliation.  You may register in one of the following ways:

  • Democrat - May vote in Democratic primaries and all non-partisan, bond, referenda, special, and general elections. 
  • Republican - May vote in Republican primaries and all non-partisan, bond, referenda, special, and general elections.
  • Libertarian - May vote in Libertarian primaries and all non-partisan, bond, referenda, special and general elections.
  • Unaffiliated - May vote in all non-partisan, bond, referenda, special, and general elections.  May vote in political party primaries, only where approved by the party.  (Currently may choose to vote in either the Democratic OR Republican party primary.)

Other Information
NC provides permanent voter registration. However, voters may be removed from the voter registration records for the following reasons: a felony conviction, moving from the county, death, by request from the voter, or if the voter has not voted in any election within eight consecutive years and had no contact with the Board of Elections.
